A weekend away at Lake Vyrnwy.

If you get the opportunity to stay at the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and Spa, do! You won’t regret it.

I was looking for a last minute break somewhere nice to butter up my husband after leaving him at home to work and going off on a 2 week cruise without him….

We have previously stayed at Lake Vyrnwy 3 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I’ve since sent my parents on a short break for birthdays and Christmas. So became the idea to butter him up to pick me up in Southampton then we drive up to Mid Wales… amazingly he agreed!

Booking was easy. Online and very straight forward. The journey up was quick and drama free. In no time we were checking in.

We stayed in a garden view room. The cheapest, but not the smallest. We had a huge room! We’ve previously stayed in a Lake view room and ended up having mist/snow so not actually seeing too much.

Our room was lovely. Comfortable , a mixture of traditional furniture and a very modern bathroom. I loved the bath! The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. I slept like a log!

We also had a lovely little balcony, no view but it was nice to have a little patch of privacy in the glorious sunshine.

During the afternoon we went for a walk around the Dam.

We then returned to the hotel for a delicious meal, there is nowhere close for miles, so I would suggest booking dinner bed and breakfast. The food is scrumptious and the service is excellent , you won’t be disappointed .

The full Welsh breakfast was delicious too! We had planned to walk around the lake ( it ended up being a 16 mile walk…) so did not feel bad about being a piggy at breakfast!

The walk around the lake was beautiful. Mostly covered in the shade. Do use some good insect repellant though, I ended up being bitten 19 times by horsefly… which itch like crazy!

The walk however was excellent, all flat and including some beautiful views. I’d definitely do it again. Make sure you take some water with you and food if you’re going to be hungry. We stopped in the RSPB cafe at the end for a delicious ice cream before the walk back up the hill to the hotel. That was the killer of the 16 miles! The hill back up.

The following day we were given a complimentary late check out. My parents came to join us, as they don’t live too far away and we enjoyed a delicious Sunday lunch prior to the drive back to London.

A fantastic stay in a beautiful hotel with fabulous staff.

I can’t wait to return as soon as possible!
