32 hours in Jersey

Following attending a recent Wedding on Jersey and remaining in love with the Island, I made a spur of the moment plan to visit my parents at the beginning of their holiday to Jersey.

I flew from Southend airport. Despite only living around an hour from this airport, I had never thought of travelling from there. We flew with EasyJet, using hand luggage only. Security was a dream, through in minutes! The departure lounge is small, but perfectly formed.

Our short flight to Jersey was brilliant. We landed at 07:45, cleared security in seconds and left the airport walking towards St Brelades. I had the plan to walk the Railway path down to St Aubin, then walk around St Aubins Bay to St Helier.

The Railway walk joins St Aubin’s Harbour to Corbiere Lighthouse. At only 3.4 miles long, its a peaceful, popular route. When we were walking along at 08:30 on a Saturday morning it was full of park runners and dogs being walked!

We walked down towards St Aubins and had a pit stop for some breakfast looking out over the gorgeous St Aubins Bay. The heavens briefly opened, but lucky normal sunshine service resumed soon after!

Then onwards to the La Mare Wine Estate, we caught the bus, planning to take a tour of the vineyard.

Thoroughly enjoyed a great little vineyard tour which ended with delicious tastings! Including the estates white, rose and red wine, the apple brandy cream, chocolate and fudge, delicious. If you’re flying on hand luggage only, the estate have a shop in the airport after security!

We stayed in the Monterey Hotel. A lovely hotel, homely, clean, quiet and traditional, it even has both an indoor and outdoor pool. They service a value for money evening meal, which was scrumptious. Portions were perfect, and the staff were extremely attentive. Will definitely return for a third stay!

Visited a Cruise Show on Sunday in the Raddison Blu, thoroughly enjoyed talking to the Emerald, Scenic and Silver Seas reps. Now have a plan to cruise with my parents and Husband aboard Emerald next Summer… exciting!

We had a moment for some lunch prior to head back to the Airport, to board our flight back to Southend to conclude our 32 hours in Jersey!

I was super impressed with Southend Airport on the way home too… from Plane seat to home in Kent/London in around an hour and five minutes! Perfect. I shall definitely be searching for some cheap flights to Europe on free weekends!
