Hebridean Island Cruises has announced an expanded 2027 programme for Lord of the Glens, including additional August departures, a new music cruise and sailings featuring guest speakers from British broadcasting.

The 50-guest Lord of the Glens operates small-ship cruises through some of Scotland’s most scenic waterways, including the Caledonian Canal, the Great Glen and the islands of Scotland’s west coast.

More August Cruises for 2027

One of the biggest changes for 2027 is an expanded August programme.

Instead of a single departure, Lord of the Glens will operate five continuous weekly sailings between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh during the month.

The additional departures include:

• Secrets of the Highlands & Islands, a seven-night cruise from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, departing 2 and 16 August 2027.
• Inland Waterways & Idyllic Isles, a seven-night cruise from Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness, departing 9 and 23 August 2027.

Prices for these cruises start from £3,075 per person, full board.

Guest Speakers Join Lord of the Glens

For the first time, selected Lord of the Glens cruises will also feature guest speakers, with three well-known British journalists and broadcasters joining sailings during 2027.

James Naughtie, BBC News special correspondent and former presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, will join the Inland Waterways & Idyllic Isles cruise departing 26 July.

Kay Burley, who spent 36 years at Sky News, will join the Inland Waterways & Idyllic Isles departure on 23 August.

Michael Buerk, the BBC journalist, foreign correspondent and broadcaster, will join the Voyage Through the Heart of Scotland cruise departing 15 October.

The speakers will give informal talks about their careers in journalism and broadcasting during their respective cruises.

A New Music Cruise

Lord of the Glens will also introduce a dedicated music cruise in 2027.

Musicians Colm and Laura Keegan will join the Caledonian and Great Glen Explorer cruise departing 14 April.

The sailing will feature onboard performances incorporating voice, cello, guitar and piano, with traditional Irish and Scottish music, contemporary folk and original material. There will also be informal musical sessions and sing-songs during the week.

Prices for the music cruise start from £3,400 per person.

Lord of the Glens 2027 Prices

The new 2027 programme features a selection of six and seven-night itineraries, with prices ranging from £2,450 to £4,225 per person, full board.

Lord of the Glens carries a maximum of just 50 guests and is purpose-built for cruising Scotland’s inland waterways and west coast.

The expanded programme gives travellers more opportunities to explore the Scottish Highlands and islands by small ship, particularly during August when four additional departures have been added.
